East Riverfront Transportation Study
The City of Albany has invested in many attractions that have transformed the Flint River and Downtown Albany into a walkable destination. Projects such as the Riverfront Park, Ray Charles Plaza, Chehaw Park, Veterans Park, RiverQuarium, and the Riverfront Trail have created an interconnected string of amenities and recreation opportunities adjacent to downtown on the west side of the river.
Through this plan, the Dougherty Area Regional Transportation Study and the City of Albany can connect these amenities to primary destinations on the east side of the river by improving streetscapes and safety for people who walk and bike along East Oglethorpe Boulevard, Broad Avenue, and Radium Springs Road. This will create a safer and more enjoyable connection for all people, whether walking, biking, taking transit, or driving to Albany State University, the East Riverfront Commercial District, and east Albany neighborhoods.
